Gaussin reveals the H2 hydrogen-electric racing truck for Dakar 2022

There has been a lot of talk about electric trucks as many companies prepare for the switch, but none have been rally ready like the Gaussin H2. This racing truck has recently been revealed as a hydrogen-electric vehicle that will take on Dakar 2022 next year.

Gaussin themselves are a French technology company that specialises in zero-emission commercial vehicles and will be using the H2 as a way to promote just how capable electric trucks are.

Gaussin is getting ready for the switch to electric power.

All designed by Pininfarina, Gaussin is readying a whole range of trucks and their first one, the H2, will be taking on the Dakar 2022. They are not all racing trucks though, every other one will be built for commercial use that comes in two variants. a long-distance variant with an 800 km range and a short-range edition with a 400 km of range.

The latter one, like the e-scooters in India, has removable batteries that can apparently be swapped in three minutes. How that will actually work, we don’t know. Batteries are heavy, so we assume it might have something to help you.

Along with the H2, Gaussin has also revealed designs for their other trucks that include a lorry, tipper truck, box truck and autonomous box truck.

What is the H2 bringing to Dakar 2022?

As for what we will see compete in next years Dakar, the H2 is a very powerful 100 per cent hydrogen and electric racing truck. Powered by a 380 kW fuel cell and a 82 kWh battery, the twin 300 kW electric motors are capable of a top speed of 140 km/h and a range of 185 km.

As for charging, the same swappable battery we mentioned earlier might not be used, but there is still a very impressive 20 minute charging time. We are quite excited to see how well this truck does in the upcoming Dakar rally.

“By entering the first 100% hydrogen and electric truck in the Dakar, Gaussin intends to demonstrate the reliability and performance of its hydrogen road range in a difficult environment. New technologies based on renewable energies are available and mature and should help accelerate the energy transition,” Christophe Gaussin.
