Original Lamborghini Countach designer disapproves the remake

It wasn’t so long ago that Lamborghini revealed the new version of the Countach and the designer of the original model doesn’t approve. Marcello Gandini is the person behind models like the Espada, Jarama, Miura, and the Diablo. His iconic work is well known in the automotive industry and he isn’t pleased about what the brand is doing now.

With his official statements, Marcello Gandini is officially distancing himself from the remake and also confirmed that neither the company nor the new designer has consulted him about it. It’s a rather interesting story that on one hand is understandable. The least Lamborghini could have done was involve the original designer to keep the spirit behind the car alive.

Here is the rest of Marcello Gandini statement about the new Lamborghini Countach.

“Marcello Gandini clarifies that he has not participated in and does not approve the project, that he didn’t give his placet.” If the final word of the above sentence is new to you, it’s a Latin root word for “approval,” read an official statement from Gandini, delivered by his daughter, Marzia Gandini.

“Neither earlier, nor during the interview was it stated that the car was scheduled for limited series production,” read Gandini’s statement. “With the elegance and kindness that have always distinguished Marcello Gandini, when Mitja Borkert presented the scale model during the interview, the former did smile and acknowledge as would be customary to do so.

“Marcello Gandini would like to reaffirm that he had no role in this operation, and as the author and creator of the original design from 1971, would like to clarify that the makeover does not reflect his spirit and vision.

“I have built my identity as a designer, especially when working on supercars for Lamborghini, on a unique concept: each new model I would work on would be an innovation, a breaker, something completely different from the previous one.

“Courage, the ability to create a break without sticking to the success of the previous car, the confidence in not wanting to give in to habit were the very essence of my work.

“It is clear that markets and marketing itself has changed a lot since then, but as far as I am concerned, to repeat a model of the past, represents in my opinion the negation of the founding principles of my DNA.” Stated Gandini.
