Next-Gen Honda Civic prototype

Broadcasted live on Twitch, Honda has revealed a prototype of the 11th-gen Civic. It’s taken a much more subtle sporty approach like it knows it’s still a road car. Honestly, we really like this approach and hope that Honda stays close to it.

The brand also says that this generation will offer an “even sportier, fun-to-drive new chassis, more powerful and fuel-efficient powertrains, multiple new Civic-first features and technologies, and further advances in active and passive safety features and performance”.

Refreshed design from the old Honda Civic.

In the reveal, we see a new paint finish that allows it to stand out against the dark backdrop. Honda calls it Solar Flare Pearl. With it comes wide headlights and bulky taillights that both feature ‘L’ shaped patterns.

These flank the not excessive but sporty grille and air inlets (which we have a hunch that they might be fake). At the rear, the new Honda Civic features two exhaust ends, integrated into the bumper and a subtle boot-lip.

The real interior has yet to be revealed, probably because a real one hasn’t been made. But Honda isn’t leaving its ideas in the dark. With the reveal of sketches, we can see exactly what is on the brand’s mind.

Honda has taken a minimalistic approach to the cabin, cleaning up most physical buttons and sticking to long continuous pannels. Peaking of those panels, there’s a honeycomb strip that conceals the air vents. Finally, the cabin is complete with a nine-inch infotainment screen.

Offering the latest tech Honda has.

Honda claims that the new Civic will feature a new version of Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (Ace) body structure. This will improve both occupant and pedestrian collision protection. Included in the technological update, this Civic will feature an upgraded suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver-assist.

The plans for the launch of the new Honda Civic are set for the 2nd quarter of 2021 in North America. It makes sense since this is where the Civic has been a seller in the passenger car department according to Honda.

Both a sedan and hatchback variants are confirmed with Si and Type R derivatives in the works.
