Say goodbye to the Mini Convertible
If this is the first time you hear about the Mini Convertible in a while, then that would make a lot of sense. Sales if this Mini variant has been gradually decreasing and the BMW group plan to stop its production. With no hastily made decisions, the cut-off for production is planned for 2024.
The soft-top Mini Convertible was introduced to the market in 2004. According to a report from the Automotive News, there is no replacement model planned. This means that this Mini will have had a good 20 years. Nothing to be overlooked as the Mini Convertible can go out with its head held high.
If not a convertible, what is to come from Mini in the future?
Well, instead of a new convertible model to liven up sales, Mini has instead shown interest in making larger SUVs. With current plans to start their production in 2024, this would appear to be where Mini plans to shift their market.
This will be done under the name of ‘Traveller’, an SUV that will slot in above the Countryman. Just how big will it be? Bernd Körber, Mini’s boss, suggested it might be around the size of a BMW X3 or X5. Hardly mini at all, but given the current motor trends, it makes a lot of sense.
That isn’t that most exciting bit of news for Mini in South Africa. Recently, the official price range for the new Mini Cooper SE was released. It’s the all-electric variant that comes in as South Africa’s cheapest EV.
