New Volkswagen Tiguan R revealed
Volkswagen has been busy with all they have to reveal, including this new facelifted Tiguan R. With an updated design and exhaust acoustics, we were excited to see it finally revealed. The Tiguan has become Volkswagens most popular car, beating the Golf, so it only makes sense for the second-generation to be great.
Volkswagen Tiguan R is a lot more sporty.
The front of the Tiguan is all-new. The broader grille with four horizontal chrome lines connects the two headlights seamlessly. Those headlights also feature VW’s latest LEDs and just below that is a much more aggressive bumper. They have huge air intakes which we can only assume aren’t all real, but we look forward to when we can confirm that with you.
New 21-inch alloys wheels find their way onto the Tiguan R, slightly smaller wheels will likely find themselves onto Volkswagen’s lower range models. We mentioned the exhaust acoustics, well at the back you will find Akrapovic exhaust ends attached to a performance exhaust of the same brand. This performance SUV will definitely make some noise.
The regular high-quality Volkswagen interior.
The inside of the Tiguan R looks great. A 10-inch digital driver’s display can be seen behind a new steering wheel and next to those are the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Volkswagen has kept the touch-only controls in the centre console, but they made use of them in another place too. That would be the steering wheel which now has no physical buttons.
To set the mood, the Tiguan R has a premium sound system made by Fender and 15 ambient lighting options. While we cannot experience any of the interior materials yet, we imagine it would get the standard Volkswagen treatment of a mix of soft-touch, material, and hard plastics.
This Tiguan has 235 kW of power.
Volkswagen has not released all of the specs for the Tiguan R, but there are some details we do know about. It will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 235 kW and 420 Nm of torque. All that power will go through the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system controlled by t 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Travel Assist and active cruise control will likely be added to the Tiguan’s automated driving capabilities. Nothing that will take the experience of a performance vehicle away from you.
While no official launch date of the facelift and R range for the Volkswagen Tiguan has been confirmed, we can expect to see them arrive in South Africa during the first quarter of 2021.
