Polestar 3 will be based of this design
Volvo’s performance brand Polestar is looking to change up the design with the new Polestar 3. They have come a long way since the hybrid Polestar 1, moving to full-electric with the 2. Now with the 3, the precept concept has been revealed with some insight into it.
“People ask me all the time, ‘what is the future of Polestar?’, and of course we are not showing our future models just yet, but Precept shows you where we will be heading – our design direction, our ambitions about sustainability and the great digital user experience we will bring with those future cars. Precept showcases our future, not as a fancy dream or something out of a sci-fi movie. This is our reality, to come.” – Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.
While the precept concept is not what we will be seeing on the roads, much like the Hyundai Prophecy, this is the inspiration for cars to come.
Polestar 3 plans.
While the concept is a sedan, that is not what Polestar are planning right now. In fact, the brand is planning on adding to the very popular SUV range. From the design of the precept, I think it lends itself well to an SUV especially with the box shape at the back. On the sedan it makes me think about the lack of design on the Cybertruck.
The front of the car is sleek, and the split LED headlights look awesome. It’s nothing too out there though which could mean Polestar are playing it safe, let’s hope safe doesn’t mean more Volvo.
More than just concept.
Concept cars are more than just design and often show the goal for quality and technology too. Like what a lot of brands are going, for now, Polestar looks to be using recycled materials for the interior. The plastics are being replaced by a flax-based natural composite, plastic bottles used to create the seats, headrests made from wine corks and carpets from reclaimed fishing nets.
For technology, they used the growing trend of keyless entry and hand gestures to control the infotainment. The digital driver’s display watches the driver’s eyes and adjusts its display accordingly. More detail when looking directly and bigger displays when looking away. Talking about where you look, when parked, you can access streaming services to keep you glues to the infotainment system.
In the front of this concept car is a SmartZone front fascia which is used to house radar sensors and cameras, something that features on the sides of the car too. Right on top, there is also a camera for even more driving assistance technology. 
For a precept concept, it doesn’t push many boundaries.
From the design to the technology, there is nothing new about this concept. With all the features listed, it is very believable that this car is being made right now which may not say too much about what to expect in the future. It is still a great looking car and if Polestar goes more into this direction but don’t stop here, I think we will get to see a very impressive SUV in 2021.
