“The LTD is a natural progression for GWM given the growing demand from business users and private buyers alike for double cab bakkies,” says Conrad Groenewald, Chief Operations Officer of GWM South Africa. “From the outset, we carefully planned the derivative spread in both single and double cab configurations to provide the best possible solution across the Pickup user spectrum, and the LTD takes this to a new level.”

Slotting in above the LS and LT models in the P Series Passenger Double Cab range, the LTD is set apart from the rest by attractive and immediately noticeable 18-inch Gloss Black Sports Alloy rims with all-terrain tyres. Body colour-coded door handles and mirrors are also LTD specific, along with a Black Sport Bar, plastic bedliner, off-road steel front and rear bumpers and more assertive off-road wheel arches.

Other functional and model-specific features providing the LTD with a more adventurous and confident look include a black roof rail, a specifically developed snorkel, a front winch that can pull up to 4,2 tonnes and 12-Volt accessory connector in the engine bay and 120Watt 220V located next to the rear USB port. However, what really differentiates the top-of-the-range LTD from the other models in the P-Series range, is GWM’s newly developed four-wheel drive system.

While other variants are equipped with a torque-on-demand (TOD) four-wheel drive system, the fully selectable system for the LTD embraces a variety of driving modes, including 2H, 4H, Snow, Mud, Sand and 4L. The offroad systems include the Cross-Country Expert Mode and Drive Mode Memory, linking to both front and rear differential locks.

“All the high levels of specification and luxury from the original P-Series Passenger Double Cab range are included as well, giving the LTD one of the highest levels of comfort and safety specification available on the market – at a very competitive price of under R700 000,” says Groenewald. “We have also included a couple of additional features – such as the offroad Cruise Control and the Trail Turn assist that decreases the turning circle by 3 meters to improve your 4×4 manoeuvrability as well has an Offroad Thermal Management system.

The flagship GWM P-Series LTD utilises the same 2,0-litre turbodiesel engine fitted to its siblings, offering a useful 120 kW of power at 3 600 r/min and maximum torque of 400 Nm between 1 500 r/min and 2 500 r/min, coupled with a slick-shifting ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Active and passive safety is well taken care of via an Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Distribution, Traction Control, Rollover Mitigation, and the Brake Assist System.

Standard also are Hill Descent Control, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, as well as dual front airbags with side, curtain and front central airbags, and ISOFIX mountings. For extra security, the LTD has an engine immobiliser system. In terms of in-car entertainment and connectivity, the LTD features a 7-inch LCD virtual instrument cluster and a 9-inch multi-media touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth capability as well as wireless phone charging, 2 USB ports in the front and 1 for the passengers.

The new GWM P-Series LTD Double Cab 4×4 AT is now available at all GWM dealers countrywide at the recommended retail price of R694,950 (incl. VAT) with a standard 5-year/100 000 km warranty and service plan, and 5yr unlimited mileage Roadside assistance.
