Smart #1 is the brands first EV
Smart is entering the EV market this year with their new model, the Smart #1. Yes, that is the name for the brands first EV.
This car is the product of a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely. The two will bring the EV based on Concept #1 which we got to see in 2021.
Smart #1 is looking good so far.
Smart is known for being a small city car, but #1 is a little bigger than what they have made before. While still small, measuring 4.29 metres in length, this model is a five-door crossover.
In the images provided, we see the new model clad in camouflage but there is enough detail to make out what the final model will look like. We have to say, we are quite impressed.
The design’s aerodynamics are rather impressive with a drag coefficient of 0.29. This is partially thanks to the active grille shutters and flush door handles. The latter features ice-breaking functionality for much colder countries.
The EV will be rising on the Geely Sustainable Experience Architecture which supports 800-volt architecture and up to three electric motors. This could mean that a rather zippy variant of the #1 could be made, but only time will tell.
In the past, Smart has not been able to win over the South African market, but would this EV change your mind?
