DS prepare the E-Tense Performance for their electric future

DS has evolved a previous concept into this E-Tense Performance model. It too is a concept that essentially turns the core of their Formula E race car into a coupe. However, unlike most concept cars, this one will be driven to retrieve data for the luxury brand’s future EVs.

The DS E-Tense Performance may just be a concept but it sure does look good.

The exterior design alone is striking but it’s not the first we have seen something like this. The original DS E-Tense concept is at its core for this Performance version.

There are many new features though, namely the headlights which now contain cameras and striking T-shaped LEDs that light up the front of the car. What was once a grille is now a flat black rectangle that features the DS logo.

The bodywork is smooth with air intakes and vents that blend with the shapes while a massive diffuser dominates the rear.

It’s all finished in gloss black and a bright beetle-green that makes this concept stand out.

Built to gain data for upcoming EVs.

Powering the E-Tense Performance is the exact framework that is in the DS Techeetah race car. That would be two electric motors that work together to produce 600 kW of power to all four wheels. This allows it to sprint to 100 km/h in just two seconds.

The company will be using their Formula E drivers who will be very familiar with the performance, Jean-Éric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa, to test the concept in the coming months. This will be what DS uses to inform their future EVs that are planned to start production in 2024.

“Our objective is to apply the experience acquired in Formula E and the expertise that we’ve taken from our international titles to a project which predicts the high-performance electric car of tomorrow.” – Thomas Chevaucher, DS PERFORMANCE Director.
