Ford resto-modded a 1976 pickup into the F-150 Lightning

It was earlier this year that we were introduced to the Ford Eluminator inside the Mustang Mach-E GT and now we are getting it in a very retro-cool 1976-inspired F-150 Lightning pickup.

Revealed at this year’s SEMA, Ford has shown us what will become the resto-modded F-150 Lightning. Based on the 1976 F-100, this electric bakkie has the heart of a Mustang and will go on sale in 2022 in America. That’s not the last of it though because Ford is making the Eluminator electric rate available for purchase too.

The concept shown at SEMA that we see in these pictures was built by MLe Racecars and the Roadster Shop. It was kept incredibly close to the original F-100 that this car was based off on which we love. It has that familiar old feel with the biggest changes being the Avalanche Gray finish and the copper accents.

The hubcaps are especially cool being kept mostly sealed for those large nineteen-inch wheels. Ford also managed to cram a small frunk under the hood where you can also see a window into some of the electrical hardware.

The interior has not changed much apart from the electrification of the dashboard. This F-100 Eluminator concept has avocado-tanned leather seats and a billet aluminium dashboard. At the centre of that dash is the same 15.5-inch touchscreen that we saw inside the Mustang Mach-E.

Ford gave the F-100 Eluminator concept the exact same dual-motor electric powertrain from the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance. This includes the 88.0-kWh battery pack and the massive 358 kW and 860 Nm outputs.

As for the production F-150 Lightning, we can expect to see a reduced power setup of 206 kW and 430 Nm.

Regardless of power, this resto-mod is super old-school-cool and you will be able to buy that massive electric setup too. The only snag is that Ford did not mention selling the battery pack which is a vital part of making those motors go. We hope that Ford will make that available.
