Lucid Motors reveals its Air sedan and SUV plans

After their long reign, Tesla’s biggest competition may have just been revealed, the Lucid Air. This luxury sedan is the result of years of prototypes and teases and now we know that it was all worth the wait. With the air comes significant improvements to the luxury EV market that make this a direct Tesla competitor that could serve to push the advancements in electrical mobility even further.

Elegance and aerodynamics were key focuses on the design of the Lucid Air. The light signature is a stand out feature with slim Intelligent Micro Lens Array headlights that sit under a strip of daytime running LEDs that runs across the whole front of the vehicle. At the back is what Lucid calls a Speedform taillight that streaks from one side of the rear to the other.

The Lucid Air, much like Tesla’s, will also come with a solid glass canopy roof. This is framed by satin-finished aluminium. This opens the car’s interior to create a much more spacious environment. While the roof is glass and aluminium, the body will have an option of 6 exterior colours all inspired by the landscapes of Lucid’s home, California.

Lucid use smaller motors that boast more efficient use of power allowing for better interior space. Giving this sedan a very comfortable space for both driver and passenger. Speaking of comfort, the material used is in the buyer’s hands. Nappa leather or Purlux leather alternative can be matched with Alcantara or alpaca Wool Blend Textile. There are four options for the wood trim too, all sustainably sourced according to Lucid. These are Silvered Eucalyptus, North American Walnut, Carbon Oak and European Eucalyptus with a grey finish.

This is all lined with ambient lighting which is controlled through the car’s infotainment system. Two monitors make up for the digital connection of the air. The first is a wide 34-inch Glass Cockpit that starts from behind the steering wheel. The next is a retractable touchscreen that covers a hidden storage compartment. This connects the car to your phone through a mobile app which allows the owner to use their phone as a digital key as well as use Alexa voice control. More features that can be accessed through the infotainment include navigation, a 21-speaker audio system and built-in WiFi.

The Lucid Air has impressive performance from more efficient motors.Lucid Air side

Lucid offer two output grades with the Air which features a dual-motor and 113 kWh floor-battery pack. The two peak outputs land at 462 kW and 596 kW with a boasted range of 832 km. Lucid has a range-topping Dream Edition version with 805 kW of power that should bring the car to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. With the 924-volt electrical architecture, Lucid also boasts a fast charging time. They claim the Air can get 480 km range on just 20 minutes of charge.

Lucid already have an SUV in development.Upcoming SUV

While the Air will be Lucid’s first vehicle, the growing SUV market is not being ignored. We do not know much about the next Lucid vehicle other than that is will be an SUV and will likely feature a similar EV structure as the Air.
