Prodrive is bringing a new sustainable fuel to Dakar

Prodrive is a motorsport and advanced engineering company that, to be honest, we haven’t heard much of until now. That’s not to say we aren’t excited for the news that has just come from them and their new biofuel that will be powering the Bahrain Raid Xtreme team in Dakar 2022.

Developed alongside Coryton Advanced Fuels for over eight months, the new Prodrive ECOpower fuel is hoping to become a sustainable replacement or alternative to racing and driving fuel.

What makes Prodrive ECOpower fuel.

The main components of this fuel are produced from second-generation biofuel that has been manufactured from agricultural waste. The companies combined those with e-fuels that were created by capturing carbon from our atmosphere. Prodrive says that this combination creates a fuel that reduces greenhouse emissions by eighty percent.

Bahrain Raid Xtreme team are bringing it to Dakar 2022.

Team BRX is already set to enter the upcoming Dakar in the new T1+ category. This category’s rules haven’t yet all been set in stone, but it does allow new ways to power engines. Ways like electric, hybrid, hydrogen and of course, biofuel.

The team’s car is called the Hunter T1+ and Prodrive has already run on their new fuel without making any modifications.

“Covering thousands of miles across the toughest terrains, the Dakar and the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies are the perfect environment to showcase the benefits of the next generation of sustainable fuels and demonstrate that they can be used in road vehicles to reduce the use of fossil fuels, while still offering the same performance and range.” – David Richards, Prodrive chairman

This won’t be the only time we see this fuel as the company plans to take it to the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and we may even see it later in 2022 too.
