2022 Volkswagen Taigo is on its way to SA

The upcoming 2022 Volkswagen Taigo has entered production and is set to launch in South Africa that same year. The model might hope to capture a similar market to the successful T-Cross as it is almost a coupé-like version of it. Right now, all the specifications are not clear but we can expect to find more details about it closer to the local launch.

Volkswagen will bring the 2022 Taigo to South Africa.

While it’s capturing a similar market to the T-Cross, the 2022 Volkswagen Taigo is based on the Nivus. Both the exterior and interior show that, but it still carries its own unique flavour. Volkswagen’s IQ.Light LED matrix headlights should come standard as well.

Speaking about being based on the Nivis. Volkswagen almost completely copied that cabin over onto the 2022 Taigo, adding some modern trends. The same digital cockpit that new VW models have can be found with a 9.2-inch infotainment system. This system uses the third generation MIB3 with wireless app connect. It also gets wireless charging.

Engine range and driver’s assistance features.

Two engines are available across the range. Each drives the front wheels with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

That first engine is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol that comes in two states of tune. 70 kW and 175 Nm for the lower range and 85 kW and 200 Nm for the mid-range. Topping the range off is a 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine. This will produce 110 kW and 250 Nm.

Several driver’s assistance features can also be expected to come standard through the Taigo range. Features like surround-view monitor, front assist with emergency braking, lane departure warning and IQ-Drive Travel Assist. Although that last one will likely be an optional addition and can allow semi-automated driving up to 210 km/h.
