2021 Mitsubishi Xpander details for SA

Mitsubishi has brought the 2021 Xpander to South Africa. This seven-seater SUV claims to fulfil the purposes of an MPV, despite its proportions and carries a fair amount of style to it.

“As the name suggests, the much anticipated Xpander is all about broadening one’s horizons, whether that be in terms of lifestyle choices, or family dynamics. With the introduction of this very exciting addition to our line-up, we hope to strengthen our positions in both the MPV and compact SUV segments of the local market.” – Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA)

The gearbox changes the wheel sizes for the Mitsubishi Xpander.

There are two models at launch that only differ in ways – transmission and wheel size. It’s a curious combination that makes less sense the more we think about it. Nevertheless, the manual Mitsubishi Xpander is equipped with a set of fifteen-inch alloy wheels and the automatic variant gets sixteen-inch ones. Apart from this, both variants get daytime-running LEDs as standard.

Speaking about standard features, the interior gets electric windows, a touchscreen infotainment system with reverse camera, automatic air conditioning, Bluetooth, a USB port and 120-watt power sockets for each row of seats. Those back two rows are rather flexible to adjust for storage space. The third row can be folded completely flat and the second row can be folded away too. Underneath each seat, there is a very nifty storage space which is where you will find the power sockets.

Engine details and a notably short safety feature list.

Whether you are looking at the five-speed manual or the four-speed automatic, this Mitsubishi Xpander will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces up to 77 kW and 141 Nm.

There are a few safety features such as front airbags, ABS with EBD and anti-lock brakes. But, for a family car, the Xpander is severely lacking in this department.

Pricing for the 2021 Mitsubishi Xpander in South Africa.

The new Mitsubishi Xpander is covered by a three-year/100 000 km manufacturer’s warranty and a two-year/30 000 km service plan. The price also includes five-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance. Service intervals are set at 15 000 km/1 Year whichever comes first.
