Toyota joins the full-electric market with 2 new EV models

Toyota recently announced plans to unveil two new EV models in 2021 that plan to go into production in 2022. Toyota has said that one of the EV models will be a crossover while the other could be completely new. Which current Toyota do you think could be getting the crossover to EV?

In addition to those two, Toyota also plans to reveal a new plug-in hybrid this year that will go into production in 2022. If that sounds familiar, this is the second time we have heard about this hybrid.

“We continue to be leaders in electrification that began with our pioneering introduction of the Prius nearly 25 years ago. Toyota’s new electrified product offerings will give customers multiple choices of powertrain that best suits their needs.” – Bob Carter, TMNA executive vice president of sales

Toyota hybrid leaders are catching up to the EV market with two new models.

Before the major brands started to turn to full electrification, Toyota was unarguably the leader in using electric power in their vehicles. With very successful hybrids, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, we would have guessed that Toyota would have been ahead of the EV curve.

The two EV models announced Toyota fall part of a plan for the brand to become 40 percent electrified by 2025 and 70 percent by 2030. While this is not as dramatic as other manufacturers, we still fully expect for whatever Toyota has to offer to be right up there with the rest of the crowd.

These two EV models are just the start for Toyota. The company further plans to have a total of ten EVs in the market during the early 2020s. This means that we can expect to see a lot more announcements in the future for Toyota. We are very excited.

“We believe the fastest way to lower greenhouse gases in the transportation sector is to offer drivers lower carbon choices that meet their needs. At every price point and with multiple powertrains, we can put more people in cleaner automobiles across North America to have the greatest near-term impact on total carbon emissions.” – Gill Pratt, chief scientist of Toyota Motor Corporation and CEO of Toyota Research Institute
