Hyundai Palisade on its way to South Aftica
Hyundai had announced its plans to launch their flagship SUV in South Africa, the Palisade. Due to launch later this year, this luxury SUV will put the brand in a market that it didn’t previously compete in and will only sell in small numbers.
Updated with the new design language.
The new Palisade continues the latest design language that Hyundai has applied to all its new models. As you can see, the exterior design feature share many elements that other Hyundai’s use. Don’t be fooled by its strong stance though, it is no hardy off-roader.
The Hyundai Palisade is a comfort-focused luxury SUV from nose to tail. The front grille is huge and flanked by daytime running LEDs. The flagship model, on the other hand, includes twenty-inch alloy wheels, a dual-panel sunroof, a head-up display, an electrically-powered hands-free tailgate.
The Hyundai Palisade is full of comfortable material.
Inside, the Hyundai Palisade is fill of high-quality material. The is ample use of leather, wood and satin chrome finishes. As standard, the car also gets three-zone climate control, twelve-speaker Infinity premium audio system, keyless entry with push-button start and a ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Speaking about the seats, the regular Palisade is an eight-seater while Hyundai has made the flagship model a seven-seater. It drops the third middle row seat to make that row as luxurious as the front seats.
Each row gets its own roof-mounted vents and around the interior, there are sixteen cup holders. That means that everyone inside could be drinking two drinks at the same time. With the rear seats up, the Palisade has a luggage capacity of 311 litres, with them down it’s 704 litres.
Loads of tech for eight people.
Up front the Palisade features a wireless charging pad, but Hyundai didn’t forget about the other passengers. There are seven USB ports around for them. The front also has a seven-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. This is all compatible with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto.
The second row of seats gets access to their own climate controls, but there’s even more in the flagship model. Heated seats and ventilation. For parents, this car also comes with loads of family-friendly features like the Diver Talk feature. This will allow you to yell at the children in the back row without having to raise your voice by amplifying you through the speaker system.
Exact engine details still to be announced.
Right now we can only work off the engine offerings in Australia as Hyundai has not confirmed what they are giving to the Palisade in South Africa. There are two options available and both are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The first engine is a 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine with front-wheel drive. It creates 217 kW and 355 Nm. The second is a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine with all-wheel-drive. It makes 147 kW and 440 Nm.
As standard, the Palisade comes with an array of safety features. These include six airbags and man braking and stability features. There are more like inter alia, High Beam Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist, Lane Keeping- and Lane Following Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
