JOHANNESBURG – Mercedes-Benz buses, trucks and vans are set to be the focal point of this year’s 65th IAA International Commercial Vehicle show, taking place from September 25 to October 2 in Hannover, Germany.

Urban buses, rural-service buses, touring coaches, minibuses – Mercedes-Benz is not just represented in every segment of the bus market, but they also lead across the board. This dominant position was made apparent by, among other things, the implementation of the Euro VI standard, where it set the pace with clean and verifiably more fuel-efficient buses.

On display at the Mercedes-Benz bus stand will be the Mercedes-Benz Citaro, boasting a new engine version in articulated buses; the Mercedes-Benz Intouro, a specialist inter-city bus; the Tourismo with new safety levels and the Travego with new Active Brake Assist 3.

The excitement around the Mercedes-Benz Vans stand will be around the public premiere of the new Vito, setting the standard with three drive systems, a large payload, unique safety equipment and maximum economy.

The Sprinter – highly regarded as the undisputed number one in its class – is more economical, safer, more environmentally friendly and more attractive than ever. With the distance warning assistance system, Adaptive Brake Assist BAS pro, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Crosswind Assist, the Sprinter continues to lead with numerous safety systems in the van segment.
Visitors to the Mercedes-Benz stand will also have an opportunity to witness the truck of tomorrow. At the beginning of July this year, Daimler demonstrated the outstanding capabilities of the autonomously driving “Future Truck 2025” on the A14 motorway near Magdeburg.

The Future Truck 2015 was developed by Daimler Trucks as part of the “Shaping Future Transportation” initiative to save resources and reduce all types of emissions while also ensuring the highest possible standard of road safety.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz will be presenting other state of the art trucks with around 20 vehicles explaining the technology that lies behind the outstanding cost-effectiveness of the new truck generation.

In top form will be the Fuso Canter with the cleanest technology, whatever the application. Fuso is a pioneer in environmentally friendly drive systems for the commercial vehicle sector. The new Fuso Canter E-CELL represents the state of the art for all-electric, emission-free light trucks with an operating range of over 100 km and a powerful output of 110 kW.

Eight Canter E-CELL trucks have been undergoing practical trials with customers for a year and the Canter Eco Hybrid has already been available in Europe since the end of 2012, producing fuel and CO2 savings of up to 23%. The diesel-powered Fuso Canter is even more economical and cost-effective since the move to Euro VI. The Ecofficiency package included as standard reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

“As a leading manufacturer, we are looking forward to launching a number of these products in our market, which will further solidify our market-leading position. With such an impressive array of vehicles and innovative technology being showcased, we will continue to set the pace in the commercial vehicle industry,” said Kobus van Zyl, Executive Director: Daimler Trucks and Bus, Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
