Porsche made an entry-level RWD Taycan
Porsche has updated its all-electric Taycan range with a new entry-level model. It falls just under the 4S derivative with less power and only one motor. This is the only rear-wheel-drive Taycan available which could be a plus for some.
The new Porsche entry-level Taycan.
The new entry-level Taycan has a smaller battery pack with only 79.2 kWh and a single motor that pushes 300 kW through the rear wheels. Thanks to the smaller battery and one less motor, the whole car comes in at 90 kg lighter than the Taycan 4S.
Sprinting from 1 to 100 km/h might not be an exhilarating three seconds, but the 5.1 seconds this entry-level Taycan still makes no joke at 5.1 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 230 km/h too, but the range has significantly dropped to 412 km on a single charge.
Performance Plus upgrade.
Obviously, there is an upgrade package with the EV. It’s the Performance Plus and it gives a bigger battery of 93.4 kWh and bumps up the power to 350 kW. Does that mean anything though?
The answer is not really unless you are just in it for the numbers. Due to the increased weight, the upgraded entry-level Taycan gets to 100 km/h in the exact same 5.1 seconds. It would make a slightly better travel companion though. It bumps the range up to 489 km.
Since this is the entry-level model, the price is a lot lower. But it didn’t make it any more affordable. The Porsche Taycan RWD is priced at R2,222,700 without the upgrade. A somewhat significant R363,300 less than the 4S model.
