Audi A5 and S5 range gets a facelift

Audi has given their A5 and S5 range a facelift giving them a renewed look and updating their tech to include the MMI touch operating concept. This effects the A5 Sportback, A5 Coupé and S5 Cabriolet. For each, the engine and performance remain the same as is standard for facelifts.

New design language comes through in the Audi A5 and S5.

Each Audi A5 and S5 have had elements from Audi’s new design language. This includes a wider and flatter honeycomb grille and larger air inlets. Those inlets ar part of the updated bumper that now includes a blade that runs across the bottom.

Around the back, a diffuser has been added with trapezoidal tailpipes. Both are supposed to make the A5 and S5 models look wider. Above those are LED taillights which are accompanied by Matrix LED headlights. Buyers will also get the choice of a wide range of 12 exterior paint finishes.

The standard model will come with 17-inch wheels, black matte grille and diffuser and door sills with aluminium inserts in the front.

The model up from that is the S line and they will come with 18 inch cast aluminium wheels, illuminated front sills, sports suspension and S line specific grille and diffuser.

Finally, the top of the range S models come with 19 inch S style contrast grey wheels, red brake callipers, aluminium-look mirrors, larger rear spoiler and S bumpers and suspension.

The interior is all about the tech because nothing else really changes. As standard, the Audi A5 will come with leather or leatherette upholstery in five different colours (of the buyer’s choice). However, the S line interior package will add Nappa leather-covered sports seats.

There are two other packages that can be added.

Comfort package:

  • Electric front seats
  • Seat heaters
  • Rear view camera
  • Storage package

Sport package:

  • Flat bottomed multi-function steering wheel in 3 spoke design with shift paddles.
  • Sports seats.
  • Black lining.

In the Tech department, the new Audi A5 and S5 models get upgraded to include the MMI touch operating concept. Behind the steering wheel is a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit and in the centre of everything is a 10.1-inch MMI touch display.

So what is so special here? Well, Audi says that you can now be operated much like you would a smart phone. It can even be directly linked to your phone too via the myAudi app which comes as standard with Audi connect.

Audi connect covers all the latest advancements that Audi has incorporated into their virtual system. As standard, this includes the roof module which includes online connectivity to Audi’s roadside assistance and emergency call centre. Handy for when you really find yourself in a bad situation that probably was caused by looking at all the tech.

This system will also come with real-time information for navigation and infotainment as part of the Technology Package. This gives the driver access to Google Earth navigation, live information for locations, traffic information and weather updates.

The only thing these Audis won’t do answer to ‘KITT’.
