The updated Audi Q7
The Audi Q7 has just gone through a complete update and is already available in South Africa. These changes include visual and technical updates that will offer the full suite of Audi connect services. We have all the upgrades and new local prices to share.
Sharper looks for a sporty off-road capable Audi Q7.
Audi applied a mix of sporty elements and off-road style to the exterior of the new Q7. As the biggest element on the front, we will start with the grille. Its octagon shape is split up by six horizontal slats.
The next striking feature is the headlights and their unique light signature. Buyers can choose to have them come with Matrix LED technology. Below them are sportier air inlets that complete the more aggressive loot of the Q7.
At the rear we lee loads of horizontal lines. Most notably in the flat taillights and a chrome strip that connects them. An electric tailgate comes standard with the Audi Q7 which includes foot-activated gesture control.
The S Line model will come with a host of additional visual upgrades. These include a blade in the front bumper, titanium black grille with aluminium silver slats, underbody protection at the rear, aluminium roof rails and 20-inch wheels.
Smooth design in the Audi Q7 with the latest MMI navigation.
Because the new Q7 is slightly larger than the previous version, the interior space has expanded slightly too. Audi claims an “impressive interior length as well as headroom and elbow room in the front and rear.”
Buyers can choose a five or seven-seater version. Both can come with the Comfort Package. This will allow the rear seats to be moved individually and have an adjustable backrest.
Two large touchscreens take over the majority of the controls of the car. They also almost seamlessly blend into the gloss black trim when turned off according to Audi.
MMI navigation plus is standard in the new Audi Q7. It includes voice control and all of Audi Connect’s features. These include online traffic information, point of interest search, navigation with Google Earth, live weather updates and an emergency safety service activated by a button in the roof module.
Some options Audi offers for the interior include contour ambient lighting, four-zone automatic air conditioning, power-assist function to close the doors quietly and a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System.
The same engine with enhanced dynamics.
Engine-wise, Audi is offering the same one that the previous Q7 had. This is a 3-litre turbodiesel motor with 183kW and 600Nm that powers all four wheels. If it works, don’t fix it and this engine definitely worked for the previous Q7.
Audi claims the same 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 225 km/h.
The brand also says that it has “enhanced the dynamic facets of the Q7.” Achieving this by optimising the all-wheel steering. It now allows the rear wheels to turn up to 5 degrees in the opposite direction. Most likely at lower speeds.
For an even more comfortable ride, Audi will optionally equip the Q7 with an adaptive air suspension.
