Expect Bentley to be fully electric by 2030

Bentley announced their plans for the next 10 years on the 5th of November and it involves the brand going fully electric. This strategy is named Beyond100 which will slowly transform the luxury car manufacturer to only produce electric vehicles (EV).

This change is no small feat. Bentley is the largest producer of 12-cylinder petrol engines and to go fully electric would completely “reinvent itself.”

“Since 1919, Bentley has defined luxury grand touring. Being at the forefront of progress is part of our DNA – the original Bentley boys were pioneers and leaders. Now, as we look Beyond100, we will continue to lead by reinventing the company and becoming the world’s benchmark luxury car business.” – Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bentley Motors.

How is Beyond100 changing Bentley into a fully electric manufacturer?

The plan will all begin by changing the current lineup of Bentleys. From 2023, Bentley plans to offer a hybrid variant of their model lines. Two years from that, 2025, Bentley plans to launch their first-ever fully electric vehicle. In 2026, the brand will transition its model line to only include plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles (BEV). Finally, Bentley wants to be fully electric in 2039, completely abandoning all combustion engines.

Beyond100 does not just change the cars Bentley produce, but the manufacturing itself. The brand is committed to reducing its factory environmental impact by 75% by 2025. This started the transformation of the UK headquarters to become carbon neutral.

“Driving this change includes, and also goes beyond our products, delivering a paradigm shift throughout our business, with credibility, authenticity, and integrity. Within a decade, Bentley will transform from a 100-year-old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury.” – Adrian Hallmark

It’s good to see such a large manufacturer taking their environmental impact seriously and putting action into reducing their carbon footprint.
