New Nissan Magnite is coming to South Africa

Three months ago, Nissan revealed the concept for the new Magnite. A name created by combining magnetic and ignite. Now, Nissan has already revealed the production-ready model in India set to launch there in 2021.

This car fall in the small SUV range, which makes sense as Nissan has shifted their focus to SUVs, crossovers and LCVs. Interestingly, the Magnite was originally planned to be a Datsun which, if you look close enough, can see the design remnants for that brand. Now, the Magnite is a Nissan and will likely come to South Africa.

The Nissan Magnite has a strong SUV stance.

A large rounded grill surrounds Nissans new badge and is flanked by LED headlights and daytime running lights. A strong mix of colour, chrome and black style the Magnite. From the plastic cladding around the wheels and side skirts, it is likely that Nissan aims to make the Magnite off-road capable. Or at least comfortable on dirt and gravel roads.

Minimalistic and dark interior.

Nissan took a minimalistic approach to the cabin with an 8.0-inch touch screen replacing mos of the buttons. Not all though as we can still see physical controls in the centre console and steering wheel. The system comes with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto, so nobody is left behind. It also connects to the 360° camera.

The instrument cluster is a 7-inch screen and the Magnite also comes with a wireless phone charger and JBL sound system. While boasting significant passenger space for the category, the luggage space comes in at 336 litres.

Nissan still has more to reveal about the Magnite.

Equipped with 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, Nissan has not revealed any peak output numbers yet. We do know that it will either come mated to a five-speed manual or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). With the mention of off-road earlier, the Magnite has a ground clearance of 205 mm.

We expect to see the Nissan Magnite in South Africa in 2021 as Nissan has confirmed two new lower-end vehicles. As a compact SUV, we are sure they mean the Magnite. We look forward to finding out more closer to the launch.
