McLaren starts production of the 765LT
McLaren has begun the production of its 765LT or Longtail. With an appropriate 765 units to be produced, McLaren has been cutting weight with carbon-fibre with every single piece they can. The outcome? Well it now sprints to 200 km/h and does a quarter-mile even quicker than the brand calculated when the car was first announced in March 2020. More on that later.
The McLaren 765LT has a stunning sporty design.
Just about everything you see on the outside of the McLaren 765LT is carbon-fibre. To list a few of the stand out parts, it’s the front bumper and splitter, one-piece front floor, side skirts, rear bumper and wing and the lengthened aft diffuser.
This is just what comes as standard as buyers can opt for even more panels to be made from carbon-fibre too. With that, the clear-coat finish that exposes a lot of the carbon-fibre makes a dramatic appearance.
Obviously, not everything can be made from carbon-fibre, although we wouldn’t second guess McLaren for trying. The wheels are forged alloys with titanium bolts while the exhaust system is all titanium too. Still as lightweight as possible.
Mclaren has also revealed a unique paint scheme that will be given to the first batch of 765LT units. It’s called Strata art in motion which uses three colours and around 390 hours of paintwork done by hand. Inspired by a city skyline, the colours used are Azores orange, Memphis Red and Cherry black. Brake callipers paint are included using Volcano red in the front and Azores orange in the back.
Lastly, a new paint theme was revealed named GEOHEX. It will be based on a 3D honeycomb using colours like Tarmac Black and Tokyo Cyan while exposing the carbon-fibre.
Even more carbon-fibre in the interior.
The interior is stripped to its most basic functions although buyers can choose to put the more luxury features back in at no additional cost. This has kept the interior very minimalist with more, you guessed it, carbon-fibre. The interior is kitted out with as much of the lightweight material as the exterior.
Having everything in exposed carbon-fibre would be a little too much which is why McLaren kitten the cabin with loads of Alcantara too.
Another supercar created with a minimalist interior with an impressive use of lightweight material is the GMA T.50.
Faster to 200 km/h and the quarter-mile than originally predicted.
It’s the same but updated 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that was originally announced, except this time there are more impressive speeds. Mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the McLaren 765LT produced peak figures of 563 kW and 800 Nm.
This will keep the same 0 to 100 km/h of 2.8 seconds but get a faster 0 to 200 km/h of 7.0 seconds. That is 0.2 seconds faster. The quarter-mile got 0.4 seconds quicker too, reaching the distance in 9.9 seconds.
All units will be individually numbered and while production has recently started, the firm says that deliveries will begin this year.
