2022 GMC Hummer EV

Hummer has returned, this time as the first GMC EV. It is described as a super truck that is perfectly capable of off-road and on-road performance. The full name of the car is the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1, which will be the first of a series of models. The brand intends to bring more and less powerful models out in the years to follow starting with what is called the Hummer EV 3x. Right now, we have the supertruck that GMC is starting with, let’s find out more about this Hummer EV.

The Hummer is back with a similar look.

With no need for things like grills, the hummer’s exterior design is clean. Finished in white (no other colours announced) it carries loads of road presence with its pure size and unique light signature. The lights span across the whole front end and leave the silhouette of the word HUMMER. The rear end is almost just as interesting as we see that this model will be a pickup.

Clean and simple interior design.

The interior uses a combination of black and Lunar Horizon (off white with a fancy name). Like many high-end EV’s, the roof is glass, but it gets more interesting. The GMC Hummer EV is a convertible. The roof panels are each removable allowing for open-air driving.

Each model will receive special ‘Edition 1’ interior badging to allow the driver to know they are in GMC’s first EV. It will also come equipped with a 13.4-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

GMC has made the Hummer EV a monster of a supertruck.

Powered by three separate electric motors that get their energy from the 24-module double-stacked battery, the GMC Hummer EV will have about 746 kW of power. The word ‘about’ is important because GMC has not revealed any exact numbers about the Hummer EV.

Based on GMC’s testing, they say that this hummer should be able to put that power to good use and get from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately three seconds. While the range figures were probably not calculated with that kind of acceleration in mind. Normal driving should fetch a range of over 564 km.

As previously teased, the ‘CrabWalk‘ feature is no lie. This Hummer EV can steer the rear wheels at the same angle to the front ones. This will allow for diagonal movement at low speeds. In addition, An adaptive air suspension can raise the ride height by 149 mm for getting over more off-road challenges.

GM’s advanced driver assistance Super Cruise feature will come equipped too. This will allows hands-free driving for up to 321,868 km of enabled roadway. Why there is a distance limit and how Hummer thinks a limited battery range would need so much of it confuses us. It is nice to know it has the potential to self-drive that far.

The Hummer EV charging with the best of them.

The GMC Hummer EV comes with impressive charging capabilities as well. Much like a Porsche Taycan, it is compatible with 800-volt DC public charging of up to 350 kW (more than the Taycan at that). Interestingly, the batteries switch from parallel to series when charging, GMC says that this is what makes the Hummer EV compatible with the charger.
