2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo confirmed

Mazda has officially confirmed that their CX-30 compact crossover will get the Turbo badge. This will make the CX-30 Turbo the most powerful in its category but it was not done likely by Mazda. Previously, Mazda has stuck to naturally-aspirated engines but has now made an exception due to emission laws. This means that more performance-focused Mazdas may be receiving the Turbo badge as well.

What makes the Mazda CX-30 Turbo different?

To distinguish the new flagship model from the rest of the crowd, the Mazda CX-30 Turbo will come with gloss black mirrors, black 18-inch alloy wheels and larger exhaust tips. A small Turbo badge has also been added to the tailgate. It’s just small enough to hide the shame Mazda has for using a turbo too.

The inside has not been changed much apart from new chrome accents that light up the dark interior materials. The infotainment section will also be controlled through a large 8.8-inch screen. This variant model will also come with a 12-speaker Bose sound system to liven up the place.

Enough about looks, what’s the engine like?

Under the bonnet lies a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. This will produce peak numbers of 169 kW and 420 Nm through all four wheels. It comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission as well. These figures should make this crossover a lot of fun to drive and help in quickly overtaking all the slower, non-turbocharged cars on the road.

This new turbocharged variant of the Mazda CX-30 is set to launch in the US at the end of the year. While it will make a global appearance, the plans for where this car will go have not been revealed yet. Here’s hoping it makes it South African shores.
