Toyota SA plans a Corolla replacer

Toyota SA has recently confirmed that a new passenger vehicle will go into local production. After an over R2 billon investment, Toyota SA has not mentioned what the car will be, although they have said that it will not be a sedan.

A hybrid option of this particular vehicle will be available making it the first locally produced hybrid. With start to something new, Toyota are also getting rid of something old. This car will replace the Corolla sedan production line leaving the 11th generation as the last to be built locally.

While the Corolla remains one of the world’s best-selling cars, sedan sales have been in the decline in South Africa. As SUV and crossover sale increase, it would make sense for Toyota SA to make the Corolla replacement one of those.

What we think the new Toyota in SA will be.

There has already been a lot of speculation about what the new locally built Toyota will be. We agree with the general conclusion being the new Corolla Cross. It makes a lot of sense being a new crossover.

For the official answer, we will have to practise some patience as Toyota may keep this a secret until early next year, 2021.
