The new Ford Bronco range

Ford has just recently taken the covers off their new Bronco range and it’s going come at the Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender like a storm. There are 3 derivatives, 2 of which we will cover in the most detail in this article and they include a 2-door and 4-door option. Very customizable, this Bronco will come with over 200 accessories as options and the ability to adjust the car on the go. It’s an off-road adventure vehicle that e are very excited to talk about.

Because the Ford Bronco is first and foremost, an off-road machine, it’s only fair that we start with the off-road features when we look at the outside. With some of the best-in-class stats, the Bronco has 295 mm ground clearance, 29-degree breakover angle, 37,2-degree departure angle and a wading depth of 851 mm.

Everything about the Bronco says fun, there are around 11 colour choices that all stand out from the black details like the grille. A horizontal light breaks the round headlights and frames the front branding while the back remains as practical as ever, dominated by the spare wheel. The doors are all frameless and completely removable, the 4-door version has a space to store those removed doors too. A roof is also just an option as you can remove that as well. The 2-door has a removable hard-top roof while the 4-door comes with a soft-top.

The interior is perfect for adventure. Ford Bronco 2021 interior

Incredibly clean design and loads of tech, the interior is amazing for this off-roader Bronco. From grab handles to mounting places for phones and navigation devices, its ready to go at any moment. At the centre, there is an 8 or 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs on Sync4. It’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and comes with Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assist technologies.

Optional hose-down rubberised floors and drains, as well as marine-grade vinyl seating, can boost the resistance to the outside really nicely. It makes it so you can get into your car full of mud and not have to worry that much about the cleanup.

The Ford Bronco has 2 engine options not including the Sport. Ford Bronco 2021 mountains

There are 2 turbocharged engine options in the Ford Bronco, not including the Sport model because it gets its own options. The first is a 2,7-litre EcoBoost V6 petrol engine that can produce 231 kW and 542 Nm. The second is a 2,3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder petrol engine with 201 kW and 420 Nm. Both come with 4-wheel drive as standard but there are 2 options here, a standard system or an advanced one. The standard option utilises a two-speed electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case while the advanced receives a two-speed electromechanical transfer case that adds an auto mode for on-demand engagement to select between 2H and 4H. It’s all controlled by your choice of a 7-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Built around a fully boxed high-strength steel chassis, the Ford Bronco comes equipped with Dana 44 AdvanTek solid rear axle and an independent front Dana AdvanTek differential, both available with Spicer PerfromaTrak electronic locking differentials. All models also have an independent front suspension and a solid axle design featuring coil springs with five locating links at the rear.

There is some off-road tech that comes with this Ford Bronco too. They are Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist and One-Pedal Drive.

Will the Ford Bronco come to South Africa?

As far as we can tell, the Ford Bronco will not come to South Africa. At least not any time soon. Launch plans may change but for now, the American market is were Fords focus lies as the Bronco is only being built in a left-hand-drive configuration only.
