Mustang Mach-E gets an award-winning audio system
Ford has been changing how their audio system works for their electric vehicles, EVs, and have added it to their Mustang Mach-E. They wish to supply a “premium audio experience” while giving a “domestic feel” through their B&O sound system. So, how did they do that and how does it all work?
The new audio system on the Mustang Mach-E.
Making an audio system this prominent is a first for Ford. They have let it take up 33% of the dashboard making most of the dashboard facing you a speaker. The audio system has been seamlessly placed into the interior design of the Mustang Mach-E with a Heathered Grey textile that conceals the mounted speakers. The result looks like a fabric–covered dashboard with B&O badges.
External subwoofers that are smaller, lighter but produce just as much base have been coupled with the system too.
Ford is making a similar aural experience.
The engineers at HARMAN have addressed the new road sounds you now hear in EVs. Because there is no combustion engine, the ride is a lot quieter leaving other sounds on the road to be more noticeable, something Ford doesn’t want. HARMAN has made what is described as a “similar aural experience.” Whether this means the Mach-E will pretend to make engine noises or create an entirely new audio system experience, we are yet to find out.
Tuned for the spoken voice.
With the increasingly popular audiobooks and podcasts, Ford has aimed at making a better listening experience. The audio system that we will see used on the Mustang Mach-E will be tuned to boost the spoken voice as well as supply integrated podcast apps on the infotainment system.
