Ford Tourneo now comes as an automatic

Expanding their line-up, for the first time Ford has added an automatic gearbox to their people-mover, the Tourneo. It will be available on both the mid-level Trend model and the range-topping Limited model, both getting some fancy new features on top of what was previously changed on the standard Tourneo’s facelift.

The interior of the Ford Tourneo has been completely changed for the automatic version. Starting at the dashboard, it features strong horizontal elements that bring out the width of the cabin. Using lots of soft-touch material, the quality of the trim with chrome and black details is a noticeable upgrade. The steering wheel has been redesigned for easier use and the storage has been improved too. 

A more effective air conditioning system will speed up the heating and cooling process, even from the back of this bus. Scattered around are a total of 8 USB ports to stay connected and right up front is the 4-inch infotainment screen with Ford’s SYNC®1. On the Limited version of the Ford Tourneo, the infotainment system gets an upgrade to the SYNC®3 system connected to an 8-inch touchscreen. 

New seat designs are a large feature as there are so many. Up to 6 seats in the back rows can be configured around, folded flat or completely removed.

Manual transmission Tourneos come with a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine. Now, the new automatic Ford Tourneo comes with a familiar 2-litre single-turbo engine, or SiTIt’s the same engine that the Ranger and Everest have except for the transmission only being a 6-speed automatic. The Trend model will give 96 kW and 385 Nm while the upgraded Limited model will make 136 kW and 415 Nm. 

Ford AdBlue® technology on the Tourneo. 

To reduce emissions on the diesel engine, Ford has added their AdBlue® feature to the Tourneo. This system uses a non-toxic urea/water-based solution to convert nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions into eco-friendly nitrogen and water. A particulate filter then reduces more than 99% of emitted solid particulates from the vehicle’s exhaust. AdBlue® can run out and will need to be refilled, notifications on the Driver Assist Menu will remind you of that.

There is a long list of safety and optional features that Ford offers on their Tourneo. To start, Ford has added front, curtain and side-impact airbags all around the vehicle. It also comes with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Hill Launch Assist (HLA), Roll-Over Mitigation (ROM), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). 

The several optional features include an enhanced lighting package, front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, Lane Keeping Aid, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection System (BLIS) and Cross Traffic Alert. The standard cruise control can also be switched for Ford’s advanced Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). 

Price 

Each Ford Tourneo comes with a 4-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty, 3-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance and 5-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty. A 6-year/90 000km service plan is included, with 15 000km service intervals.
