The limited Mercedes-Maybach S650 Night Edition

Just the name, Mercedes-Maybach S650 Night Edition, gives the same feel a DC Comics fan has when they talk about Batman. This black with carbon-fibre trimmed beast may just be the last of its kind for Mercedes as the massive V12 engine goes out of production. It’s a pity that only 15 will be made, but that only makes this moment more special.

The Mercedes-Maybach gets a subtle style upgrade for the Night Edition.Mercedes-Maybach S650 Night Edition front

It’s everything an S650 is and more, the Mercedes-Maybach Night Edition stays true to the original body but with more style. Coated in Obsidian black paint with a carbon-fibre rear spoiler is just the start. The 20-inch alloy wheels have a smoked grey finish. Right next to them on the front fender, Night Edition badging.

The interior design is what really stands out.Mercedes-Maybach S650 Night Edition interior

The first thing you notice when looking at what is inside this Night Edition Mercedes-Maybach is the colours. Dual-tone Nappa Leather upholstery in porcelain and black. The violet interior lighting makes it pop even. Fitted seamlessly into the design are more carbonfibre trim that extends from the front and to the back seats. Around the interior, you will also find more Night Edition badges and, on the floor, leather floor mats and a boot mat in the same colours as the upholstery.

This might be the last V12, but it sure is a good one.Mercedes-Maybach S650 Night Edition back

This may be the very last time we could see a Mercedes-Benz with a V12. This special Night Edition is fitted with a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo engine capable of producing 463 kW and 1000 Nm of torque. It has a claimed 0 to 100 km/h of just 4.7 seconds which is incredibly fast for a luxury sedan.

The lucky few to get one of these special 15 Mercedes-Maybach Night Edition models will be the proud owner of the last V12 for the price of $242 950 which in our terms is around R4-million. To understand the difference in price, a standard S650 is South Africa goes for R3 800 280. It’s just unfortunate that this beauty will only be sold is the US. We would have loved to have the small chance of seeing one around our roads.
