ClearSight gives a ground view for Land Rover

Land Rover has made the need to get out of your car and see what you are driving over a thing of the past with the brand new ClearSight Ground View. A very powerful tool particularly if you are going off-road although Land Rover seeks to improve difficult urban situations too.

What is the Land Rover ClearSight Ground View? Land Rover ClearSight Ground View

It uses cameras in the front grille and on the door mirrors. Those cameras allow you to virtually see through the bonnet of the car. The cameras display a ground view of the front underside straight to the central touchscreen providing a 180-degree view of what you are driving over. This would be particularly helpful for difficult terrain, awkward road obstructions and to see if the neighbour’s cat is still sleeping under the car. The last point isn’t what Land Rover intended for their ClearSight Ground View, but you can definitely use it for that.

The ClearSight feature goes beyond just the ground view and extends to the rearview mirror. At the touch of a button, the standard mirror changes to an HD video display of a camera behind the car. Now, packing the boot to its brim or having many tall friends in the back will no longer impair your sigh of what is behind you.

If you want your Land Rover to have even more virtual sight from inside the car, ClearSight can be offered in conjunction with the optional 360-degree Surround Camera. This is a feature we have seen in several new cars, offering greater vision on what is around you.  With the use of 4 cameras, it can be turned on to display a bird’s eye view of the vehicle on the centre touch screen. With a big car like a Land Rover, it really helps in tight parking.

Which Land Rover will have this new tech? ClearSight Ground View rearview camera

ClearSight Ground View is now available on the new Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque. It comes as standard on HSE variants of both vehicles and on the First Edition version of the Evoque. If those models are not on your next car list, you can choose it as an optional feature or wait for the new Land Rover Defender.

We will likely see a lot more of the ClearSight in Land Rovers to come. Which is great because it’s a rather exciting advancement for offroad and allterrain vehicles.
