Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA celebrates 110 years

Alfa Romeo is celebrating 110 years of making vehicles and they are doing so by bringing back the GTA. It pays tribute to Giulia Sprint GTA in 1965 and they have kept the same values they had for that vehicle, a sporty car that with reduced weight. Giulia GTA full

Giulia GTA is about losing weight

It’s in the name, GTA, or Gran Turismo Alleggerita where ‘Alleggerita’ means lightened. Alfa Romeo really have outdone the weight getting the GTA to weigh 100 kilograms lighter than the Giulia Quadrifoglio. This making it a best-in-class weight/power ratio of 2.82 kg/hp.

The engineers at Alfa Romeo have worked very hard to achieve that weight reduction, but that’s not the only thing they did. Improved aerodynamics that create better downforce as well as developing a new set of springs, shock absorbers and bushings for the suspension system.

The one is sporty and the other sportier

There will be 2 variants of this vehicle, the GTA and the GTAm. Both are sports cars through and through, however, the GTAm goes even further by removing the back seats. This makes space for a place to put your helmet, a fire extinguisher and less weight. The GTAm also has a larger front splitter and a carbon-fibre wing. Both versions have an Akrapovi? titanium central exhaust system as well as new 20-inch centre-lock wheels.

The GTA makes the perfect sports car for a family with back seats and the GTAm is made with the track in mind, both are still 100% road legal.

The inside is just as pretty as the outside

Lined with Alcantara® in between matte carbon-fibre, the inside of this car is gorgeous. The GTAm makes more use of the Alcantara® in the back where instead of finding passengers, there is space for a helmet and fire extinguisher. The GTAm gets a roll bar, 6-point safety belts and also uses a belt instead of a door handle, a little touch from the racing world.

What does this all add up to?

Alfa says the Giulia GTAm will reach 100 km/h from standstill in 3,6 seconds. They also say that only 500 of these cars will go into production but do not mention the ratio of GTA and GTAm.
