Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Rewarded with Shogun Treatment

In 2022 the Pajero Sport was one of Mitsubishi’s best-selling models and at this year’s Nampo Harvest Day, a special edition Pajero Sport Shogun will be unveiled in celebration of that success.

With seven seats the Pajero Sport is unique in the way that it combines real off-road ability with luxury on-road comfort and the Pajero Sport Shogun takes that promise to the next level.

“The special edition Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Shogun is based on the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 4×4 and boasts a variety of additional equipment to improve its already exceptional off-road capability even further while adding a rugged touch to the modern Japanese design,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

Adorning the bonnet is a black Pajero Sport Bonnet decal, while a black nudge bar, rock sliders and undercarriage protection plates add a distinctly off-road look while protecting sensitive components. An under-bonnet tow bar adds functionality without impacting the Pajero Sport’s departure angle.

Suspension components have been replaced by a complete setup from Australian 4×4 experts RAW, resulting in improved ground clearance, improved off-road ability and greater passenger comfort when traversing rough terrain. Dunlop A/T 265/60 R18 all-terrain tyres are ideally suited for a variety of conditions while offering optimum grip when heading off-road.

A snorkel allows the Pajero Sport’s engine to breathe clean air when travelling in dusty conditions. A roof rack and accessories including a high lift jack and spade add to the functionality and create a platform for the fitment of camping equipment such as a rooftop tent.

Completing the Shogun package are door handle protection covers, a wind deflector kit and a rubber 4×4 carpet set.

Inside key features include black leather seats, a power slide and reclining function for the driver’s seats and power lumbar support while an eight-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system takes care of connectivity and functionality.

As with all Mitsubishi Pajero Sport derivatives the Shogun is powered by Mitsubishi’s 2.4 litre MIVEC four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine that offers 133kW and 430Nm. Power is transferred to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II allows drivers to tackle challenging terrain with confidence. Four selectable off-road modes namely 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD High range with centre diff locked), 4LLc (4WD Low rang with CD locked) ensure optimal engine output, transmission settings and braking for superior traction over challenging surface conditions.

In standard guise the Pajero Sport offers an approach angle of 30 degrees, departure angle of 24.2 degrees and a 23.1-degree ramp breakover angle, all of which are significantly improved by the choice modifications made to the Shogun derivative.

The final specification the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Shogun is yet to be finalised as Mitsubishi will use the Nampo Harvest Day to gauge consumer interest and to ascertain which features most appeal to customers.

“Mitsubishi aims to be customer-centric and Nampo Harvest Day is a great opportunity to engage with customers and fans regarding what they look for when shopping for or kitting out an off-road vehicle, allowing us to engineer special edition models such as the Shogun to fit those exact needs,” concludes Allison.

With all modifications tested and approved by Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, the three-year/100 000km and five-year/90 000km service plan remains part of the offering.
