An EV Suzuki Jimny is on the horizon
The Suzuki Jimny, particularly the latest model, was a massive hit globally. Now, Suzuki has announced that there will be a new Jimny model within the next decade and it will be an EV.
Suzuki recently announced its roadmap to 2030 which includes an almost $35 billion investment into producing five new EV models that will be available to the European market. While the presentation didn’t mention the Jimny EV by name, the silhouette is unmistakably the little 4×4 we know from Suzuki.
As of now, the Jimny runs on a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, while in Japan it is also offered with a 660-cc turbo three-cylinder. The latter is to fit the kei-car regulations. In India, there has also been a five-door variant of the Jimny making it a significantly larger car.
With an electric engine in sight, Suzuki has also mentioned that it will focus more on Europe, Japan, India, Africa, and Southeast Asia. We can’t get our hopes up yet as the presentation also shows that the Jimny EV will only be available in Europe. While disappointed, that market has the fastest growing infrastructure for EVs and has a known interest in the Jimny. We can only hope that it may be available in more markets at a later date.
