Cars.co.za is looking for the next sim racer

Are you a sim racer and want to make that passion into something more serious? It turns out that the website Cars.co.za is looking for someone like you. They have recently announced a talent search for sim racers around South Africa and this could be a really great opportunity.

The first game that I owned was a title called Gran Turismo 3. A sim racer that really emulated professional racing well. Back then, eSports was not really a thing yet, not that I was at an age where a career was on my mind. But video games like that one are what spurred my interest in cars and have done so for many younger enthusiasts.

Now could be their time to shine and take this eSport to the next level in South Africa.

“The increase in popularity of shows such as Drive to Survive has resulted in an explosion of petrolhead passion. And with our background of always finding new and exciting ways to extend the Cars.co.za brand, we want to be involved in uncovering more of SA’s eRacing superstars that are evolving racing as we know it.” – Ross McIlroy, co-founder of Cars.co.za

The search for a sim racer has begun.

South African eSports as a whole is still in its beginning phases. If any of you have the same interest in gaming as I do, you will know about our local leagues but also how there are not many local players in the international scene. This means there is space for growth which the ATK Pro Series wants to grow.

This eSports series puts sim racers in racers that are in conjunction with other intercontinental GT races around the world. Think back in lockdown when we were all watching sim racers compete in the races that got cancelled due to the restrictions. These racers are both recognised by the SRO Motorsport Group and endorsed by Motorsport South Africa. It is also the organisation that is calling to Cars.co.za to sponsor skilled racers.

“When we initially had a plan for starting a dedicated Sim Racer platform in South Africa, we certainly didn’t envision the quality of talent that has risen so quickly to the top of our sport. We have young local racers already competing on the world stage, and with Cars.co.za looking to put a further spotlight on the talent out there, the standard of competition is only going to improve further,” Warren Barkhuizen, founder of ATK

How can you get Cars.co.za looking at you?

Applying for the sponsorship seems very simple and you can find all the information on their original post here: Cars.co.za Announces Sim Racer Search.

Our only grips with the application is that you have to have a Facebook or Instagram account. As someone who has neither because Meta is a highly privacy-invasive platform, this is a letdown to me especially when they could have done anything else. At least it is very easy to make an account on one of these websites just to apply.
