Mistubishi gives Pajero Sport the Aspire Badge

Mitsubishi South Africa has promised to bring the Aspire derivative to its entire passenger vehicle line-up, starting with the two Pajero Sport models. Aspire is the brand’s range-topping model that promises more premium sportiness and technology. Let’s get into what that exactly means for the upcoming Pajero Sport Aspire.

“The limited-edition Aspire models will further cement Mitsubishi’s position as the family vehicle of choice for the SA consumer. Available in both 4×2 and 4×4 guise, Aspire derivatives cater for customers who desire the traditional capability, versatility, durability and comfort of the Pajero Sport, but who also want to make a bold statement and stand out from the crowd.” – Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at MMSA

The new Pajero Sport Aspire might not stand out but it does come with more features.

Mitsubishi separates the Aspire on the road with two details – the grille and colour. The former features a black Dynamic Shield front grille while the colour options are limited to just Jet Black or White Diamond. To further distinguish the badge, the Aspire variant will have black roof rails and black 18-inch alloy wheels.

While the exterior might not stand out as much, it’s the interior that gets more of an update. The Pajero Sport Aspire still has a seven-seat layout but now features black leather seats and lumbar support. dual-zone climate control will still keep everyone cool with a rear ventilation duct for the second row of seats.

As for the driver,  they will be happy to have cruise control settings on the steering wheel and a full-colour digital instrument display. There are more screens with an eight-inch touch screen taking up the centre stage of the cabin. This comes with Bluetooth, hands-free voice control and SDA. There are USB ports available too.

The same engine and the same off-road capability.

The upcoming Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Aspire will be powered by the same 2.4-litre MIVEC four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This supplies a healthy 133 kW and 430 Nm to the car with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 4×4 Aspire will additionally feature the Super Select 4WD-II system which offers four selectable off-road modes – Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand and Rock.

To help keep you safe, Mitsubishi also offers a variety of safety features with the Aspire badge. This includes seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, active stability and traction control (ASTC), an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist system (BAS), hill-start assist (HAS), trailer stability assist, auto levelling dusk-sensing LED headlights, front foglamps, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, rear park distance control and a rear-view camera.

The 4×4 derivatives will add hill descent control to that list.
