Lotus tease new electric sports cars for 2026
Lotus is breaking the mould with their upcoming electric vehicles. They have recently revealed news for the models we can expect from now to 2026 and they include their first-ever SUV and a crossover to boot.
Four new electric Lotus cars are known only by code.
The first of the upcoming Lotus cars is the one that changes everything up from the brand. It’s an SUV known by its codename, Type 132. Following that will be a coupé that has more than two doors. Type 133 is a four-door coupé. Then a smaller crossover known as type 134 will find its way to the road.
Finally, something more familiar to the brand will be made. The Type 135 electric sports car. Its going to be a bit of a wait for that one.
The next electric Lotus sports car will only come in 2026.
Even though there is a four-year wait, Lotus is giving us teasers already in the form of a silhouette sketch. The brand is also planning an equivalent Alpine version.
There is more that Lotus is letting us know about their upcoming model. Type 135 will be riding on a newly developed E-Sports architecture which will support a single and dual-motor setup. It will sit underneath the Evija hypercar as one would imagine and will accommodate 6.4 kWh and 99.6 kWh battery packs with an estimated range of 483 to 724 kilometres respectively.
As long time fans of the Elise and the Exige, we honestly don’t know how to feel about the sketch. As Motor1 mentions, it does give big Esprit vibes. Which has that old school cool look but doesn’t excite us as much. We won’t pass judgement yet though as we still have a long time to wait for its release.
