The ZipCharge Go will keep your EV going

This ZipCharge Go plans to power electric vehicles around Britain when you can’t charge at home or at a charging station. All at the size of a suitcase, this kind of device is the first of its kind and could make EVs more accessible in 2022 when it launches.

What makes the ZipCharge Go so great.

As with most charging stations, you will be waiting for your car to charge for about 30 minutes. As for how much it can charge, the company claims it can give up to 32 km which they say is enough for the average UK commute.

It can be plugged in anywhere with a 3-pin socket to recharge itself and thanks to a bi-directional AC/DC inverter for two-way charging, it can store power while prices are low and return to the grid during peak times.

To charge the car, it makes use of a Type 2 cable and features both geofencing and device tracking. That last part is a bit of a privacy invader though as they will likely be able to know where you are driving at all times. It also comes with an app service so you can monitor it and set a charging schedule.

The company will make the ZipCharge Go available in multiple colours so you can match or contrast your EV. While wheels and an extendable handle make it easier to carry because it will likely be a very heavy thing to lug around. It should also be sealed to use in different weather conditions which is good for our friends in the UK since it is likely going to be in the rain a lot.

This type of charger was bound to become a product for EV drivers at some point and it’s good that someone has stepped up to the plate this early. We hope that this kind of device can make advancements to be more readily available for when EV infrastructure is introduced to South Africa.
