Hyundai Venue range gets entry variant

The Hyundai Venue SUV range in South Africa has been boosted by the addition of a new entry-derivative that will place this versatile and modern compact vehicle in reach of more buyers.

Since its launch at the end of 2019, the Venue has proven to be a hit with its perky design, compact dimensions yet roomy interior, and the reliability that Hyundai has become renowned for.

With the addition of the Venue 1.2 Motion (manual), at a launch price of R259 900 – R58 000 less than the next variant in the range – and boasting an impressive list of standard features, this smallest SUV in the Hyundai range should attract even more customers.

“We have sold 9 500 Venues since its launch in South Africa ¬– that is an excellent average of more than 400 per month, and proof of the popularity of this model, especially if you consider the negative effect of the Covid 19 pandemic on the car market last year,” says Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.

“We have identified an opportunity to add the Venue 1.2 Motion with its naturally aspirated engine and manual gearbox for young entry-level buyers, at a price that will make it a real value-for-money purchase.”

The power plant in the new Venue variant is a 1,2-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine, which is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission to drive the car through the front wheels.

The design of the Venue exhibits compact but confident body forms, in a new interpretation of Hyundai’s signature design language. The side profile exhibits full-volume wheel arches and strong character lines, while the bold black cascading grille incorporating Hyundai’s signature forward-looking visage found on the other Hyundai SUV’s.

The Venue 1.2 Motion (manual) is available with 15-inch steel wheels with styled covers as standard equipment. The Venue’s fresh and youthful colour palette offers a wide choice from Star Dust, Denim Blue, Typhoon Silver, Fiery Red, Polar White and Phantom Black.

Interior and convenience features.

The Venue’s inviting interior offers intuitive controls and forward-thinking design, excellent use of dimensions to create ample space for the driver and both front and rear passengers, and a decent-sized luggage area that adds to the practical nature of the car.

The interior space and a comfortable cabin provide adequate roominess for both urban commuters and travellers on a long road trip. The Venue’s SUV styling cues and utility make it an ideal alternative to many subcompact cars. The cargo space features a cover for added security and can be conveniently stowed when not in use.

The steering wheel has remote audio controls for the Bluetooth-enabled infotainment centre with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity with smartphones. The 8-inch infotainment centre display screen offers functions for intuitive operation of the most used smartphone functions, including app-based navigation, streaming audio and voice-controlled search capabilities.

Consumers will appreciate convenience features such as a rear-view camera and Rear Park Assist sensors, electrical adjustment for the side mirrors, a manual air conditioner and front and rear electric windows.

Safety.

The Venue 1.2 Motion (manual) features 2 airbags – one each for the driver and front passenger, seatbelt pre-tensioners with force limiters, ISOFIX child seat attachments for the rear seats, and an Advanced Braking System (ABS) to deliver safe car control in difficult road conditions

Drivetrain and suspension.

Fuel economy is an important consideration for customers who purchase an entry-level vehicle. The Venue 1.2 Motion’s 4-cylinder engine, with a displacement of 1 197 cc, delivers 61 kW at its peak performance around 6 000 r/min., and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4 200 r/min. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Venue’s suspension tuning provides a good compromise between passenger comfort and confident vehicle control. The suspension and steering deliver a combination of control, balance, optimization and ground clearance to achieve utility and manoeuvrability in a small vehicle footprint.

McPherson type struts with a stabilizer bar and coil springs are used for the front suspension, while a coupled torsion beam axle with coil springs ensure comfort and secure road handling at the rear.

Price for the new Hyundai Venue.
