2022 Porsche Macan gets fresh looks and more power

Porsche has given the Macan another facelift, updating its SUV range with sharper looks and more power. What is surprising is that they are also completely dropping the Turbo derivatives and replacing them. This SUV is set to launch in South Africa in January 2022, so let’s take a closer look at what is to come.

Loads of small updates for the 2022 Porsche Macan.

Like we mentioned, the Turbo name is gone. In its place are the Macan, Macan S and Macan GTS. These models look much like what they did before but have a few minor changes to give the model a fresh feel. One of the most notable changes is the black trim on the front bumper which has been redesigned. In our opinion, it looks lacking without the body colour inserts that are removed for the GTS.

Above that are LED headlights that feature the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and repositioned daytime running lights. While at the back, there is now an even bigger diffuser.

Moving to the sides of the new Porsche Macan, the black cladding strips now feature a three-dimensional textured surface. The wheels are also bigger and go up in size with the model. The standard Macan gets 19-inch allows while the S receives 20-inch wheels and the GTS gets 21-inch wheels. Each has seven new design options.

For those that choose the GTS Sport Package, which is only available for the GTS model, Porsche will give the Macan 21-inch GT design wheels with performance tyres.

The cabin is full of options.

The cabin gets a new GT Sport steering wheel, the same one from the 911, and an analogue clock placed on top of the dashboard. Adding a little bit of old school flavour. If you want more leather, that is available with an optional upgrade which gets the buyers choice of Gentian Blue, Papaya or Crayon contrast stitching.

Underneath the analogue clock is a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that doesn’t replace all of the controls. What does replace them are touch-sensitive surfaces, getting rid of the regular buttons.

The GTS Sport Package offers a little for the interior in the form of 8-way power-adjustable front sports seats, carbon-fibre trim, Race-Tex and extended leather upholstery and Python Green contrast stitching. The Python Green colour is used again for the GTS lettering on the seats.

A newly developed engine for the Macan.

The standard Macan gets an entirely new engine – a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol. It produces 195 kW and 400 Nm which allows the Macan to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 232 km/h.

The Macan S gets a familiar 2.9-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine, producing 280 kW and 520 Nm. It sprints to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 259 km/h. This is all calculated using the optional Sport Chrono package.

The Macan GTS using the same engine as the S model but performs a little better. It reaches 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and then a top speed of 273 km/h.

All models come with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system. In addition to this, the Porsche Active Suspension Management is standard on the S and GTS derivatives and optional for the standard Macan.

The GTS Sport Package adds the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and the Sport Chrono Package as standard.
