Pininfarina Teorema concept imagines the future

Pininfarina has shown its latest concept car, the Teorema, which will define how the company approaches its future design. The company itself does not really make cars, so this concept isn’t a direct look into what to expect, but rather the direction the company want to move in.

Interestingly, this design was developed with the sole use of Virtual Reality (VR). A first for Pininfarina for the interior focused Teorema.

Is the Pininfarina Teorema more of a lounge or car?

With a focus on the interior space, the Teorema was designed from the inside out. This drew the company to creating a lounge-like cabin that makes use of both Augmented Reality (AR) and VR. The lounge aesthetic even changed the way people would enter and exit the vehicle. There are no side doors on the Pininfarina Teorema, instead, a single door at the rear that opens upwards and forward, so both driver and passengers can walk in. Although, Pininfarina did not show this feature in use.

The interior space is highly configurable and uses Mixed Reality to augment the experience even further. Inside the pentagon-shaped lounge, the driver can switch between actively driving and autonomous mode. When in the latter, they can turn around and face the rear seats. Those seats themselves can be configured into benches or beds while the windows display useful information about the outside world.

A brief look at the exterior.

While the exterior design was not the focus, it’s still worth looking at. Unlike many cabin focused concepts, the Teorema does not come in the shape of a pod. Instead, it follows the shape of a Breadvan or sporty hatchback. LEDs follow the shape of the sharp front and rear curves.

Those curves seem to be surrounding massive air vents, possibly for further aerodynamics and improved electrical range.
