Ford Ranger Stormtrak is arriving in South Africa

Ford is adding another limited-edition Ranger to the lineup and they call it the Stormtrak. Just like the 2020 limited-edition Ranger, the Thunder, this one is based on the Wildtrak model. In fact, it shares a little more with the Thunder as Ford will be following the same upgrade recipe.

“The new Ranger Stormtrak follows the same recipe as the limited-edition Thunder, by elevating the style, sophistication and exclusivity of our most luxuriously appointed model in the Ranger line-up.” – Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa.

Pricing was not included in the announcement, but we can expect to get more details closer to the launch, later this year.

What sets the Ford Ranger Stormtrak apart?

“The Ranger Thunder was exceptionally well received when we launched it a year ago, proving unequivocally that there is strong demand for range-topping models that offer something different from the norm.” – Doreen Mashinini

What really sets the Ford Ranger Stormtrak apart is all the black detailing, but we will start with the smaller changes. Much like the Thunder, there are three-dimensional Stormtrak logos and a new paint colour. This colour is called Lucid Red (what we see in the images), but buyers can also go for Sea Grey, Frozen White and Blue Lightning.

There is loads of black used throughout the exterior of the Stormtrak. These parts include the mesh front grille with red inserts, insert in the lower section of the front bumper, decals for the bonnet and doors and black roof rails. The 18-inch alloy wheels have also been finished in gloss black.

As standard, Ford has included their new Power Roller Shutter for the rear load compartment. This, in combination with the adjustable bed divider kit, can allow goods to be loaded easily and securely. A 12-volt socket can be found here as well.

The few upgrades to the cabin.

Once the door opens, you are greeted by illuminated front scuff plates with the word ‘RANGER’. You will then take a seat on leather seats. A material that is repeated throughout the cabin. This is all matched with red stitching and the Stormtrak logo.

As standard, the SYNC®3 infotainment system is installed and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also comes with navigation and FordPass functionality. That latter one allows the owner of the car to control several features from their phone.

The Stormtrak has the same heart as the Wildtrak.

The mechanical side of the Ford Ranger Stormtrak is kept very much the same as the Wildtrak. Powering the car is a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engine that produces 157kW and 500Nm. It is mated to the same 10-speed automatic transmission that Ford has found a lot of success with.

The rest of the important details are very much the same as well. Like the towing capacity of 3500 kg, water wading depth of 800 mm and a ground clearance of 230 mm.
