Ford’s Mach-Eau fragrance will bring back petrol

Are you going to miss the smell of petrol? Ford might just have the solution with a fragrance called Mach-Eau.

Mach-Eau: A petrol scented fragrance.

Ford recently conducted a survey and one of its results was that one in five people will miss the smell of petrol when EV cars take over. To step in and take advantage of this almost useless information, Ford has created a marketing stint with the Mustang fragrance brand and created a petrol scented perfume called the Mach-Eau. A name that resembled the Mach-E.

“Judging by our survey findings, the sensory appeal of petrol cars is still something drivers are reluctant to give up. The Mach Eau fragrance is designed to give them a hint of that fuel-fragrance they still crave. It should linger long enough for the GT’s performance to make any other doubts vaporise too.” – Jay Ward, director, Ford of Europe Product Communications

It is just as we called it, a marketing stint, as Ford will not actually be selling this hilarious product. It does definitely exist though, having been created by fragrance consultancy, Olfiction. Each ingredient like blue ginger, lavender, geranium and sandalwood creates “metallic, smoky and further rubbery accents” according to Pia Long, an Associate Perfumer in the British Society of Perfumers.

We suppose the real question is not if people will miss the smell of petrol, but if people actually want to smell like petrol.
