Toyota shows off the 2022 Tundra

It has been a long time since Toyota updated the Tundra. Can you believe that the current generation was released in 2007? Fourteen years for a third-generation and after much speculation and eventual leaks, Toyota was almost forced to make an official reveal.

What we see in this reveal is the TRD Pro trim of the upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra.

The Toyota Tundra has never made it to South Africa, but we can hope.

While Toyota can’t keep the images back from the internet, they can keep their lips sealed about specifications. The only thing we know for certain is that the new Tundra will be built on the TNGA-F architecture. This is the same platform that underpins the new Land Cruiser 300. It’s also rumoured that they will also share engines.

The Tundra has never been a model to feature in South Africa and will likely remain that way. However, there are reports of Toyota developing a right-hand drive version for Australia. This would make it possible for a South African arrival, but we won’t be waiting for that to happen.

What we in South Africa can get from the Tundra is the design language. A new Hilux is on the horizon and it will likely feature very similar design cues from this Tundra. We suspect the grille shape and headlights might come across.
