New looks for the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan.
The front end has a significant change without changing the Tiguan look. The grille now flows into the LED headlights that are now a little wider too. The new VW badge also features on this model and buyers will get to choose from a variety of new colours – Ginger Brown, Kings Red, Lapiz Blue, Night Shade Blue and Dolphin Grey.
As standard, the Tiguan rides on seventeen-inch alloy wheels. However, the Tiguan Life gets eighteen-inch wheels along with cornering headlights and an electronic rear tailgate. At the top of the range, there is the R-Line that will have nineteen-inch wheels along with the R-Line package.
Additionally, buyers can opt to include the Black Style Package, IQ Matrix LEDs and a tow bar.
The new interior features.
Standard cabin features include a leather steering wheel that now has touch sliders and the latest MIB3 infotainment system. That is it for the base model’s new features which is a little underwhelming.
Up the range, the Tiguan Life gets climatronic air conditioning and front park distance control. Following that is the R-Line which gets Vienna leather seats, ambient interior lighting, active info display and a Composition Media Radio with App-Connect.
There is a wide array of optional features that buyers can have added:
- Area view camera with park assist.
- Discover Pro infotainment system.
- Harmon Kardon sound system.
- Heads-up display.
- IQ drive package.
- Panoramic sunroof.
- Trailer Manoeuvring System.
Three engine options and an upgrade to semi-autonomous driving.
Volkswagen will be bringing the Tiguan to South Africa with three engine options, one diesel and two petrol ones. To start the petrol range off, there is the 1.4-litre TSI engine that produces 110 kW and 250 Nm with a six-speed DSG transmission. Then there is the 2.0-litre TSI engine with 162 kW and 350 Nm and it gets a 7-speed DSG transmission.
The diesel option is a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine that has 130 kW and 380 Nm with its 7-speed DSG transmission.
Where this facelift does change add a lot to the Volkswagen Tiguan is in the semi-autonomous mode. This will take over steering, throttle and braking up to 200 km/h as long as the driver has both hands on the steering wheel. There is also an advanced version of adaptive cruise control that can adjust the vehicle speed based on the input from the navigation system and the front-mounted camera.
