Set to land on the roads mid-2022, Subaru has just released a teaser for their first all-electric car, the Solterra. This SUV is the brand’s first EV developed together with Toyota. Its name is taken from Latin, Sol for sun and Terra for Earth, although the car could have been called Evoltis.
The teaser came with two images that reveal just enough to get an idea of what is coming.
What we can tell from the Subaru Solterra teaser.
From what we see in the images we can see what appears to be the production-ready model with most of the details hidden in its silhouette. We can already tell from this teaser that Subaru is going to keep the Solterra very close to Toyota’s bZ4X. Both of which stay very true to the standard compact SUV and crossover shape.
While the silhouette might not stand out on the road or its bZ4X cousin, the headlights are different, staying closer to that of the more recent Subaru models. We imagine that distinctive Subaru blue colour will be available and help it stand out a little more.
Technical specifications are understandably not revealed, but we do know that it will ride on the same EV platform that Subaru partnered with Toyota to develop. This e-TNGA platform can take multiple battery sizes and allow for two motors to give the Solterra all-wheel-drive.
This model will first launch in Canada, China, Europe, Japan and the United States. Other markets are unknown, but as EV support develops in other countries, we hope that this car follows.
