Opel Manta returns as an EV

It’s probably the coolest EV right now, Opel has recently completed their one-off restomod of the Manta calling it the GSe ElektroMOD. They have removed its four-cylinder petrol engine and gave it an electric heart, turning this 1970s sports coupe into a battery-powered restomod.

“The Manta GSe impressively demonstrates the enthusiasm with which we build cars at Opel. It combines our great Opel tradition with today’s commitment to emissions-free mobility for a very desirable, sustainable future. Opel is already electric with many models – and now the legendary Manta is too,” – Michael Lohscheller, Opel CEO

Updated looks on the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD.

Finished in neon yellow, Opel did more than just switch the engine out for an electric motor. They have also updated the exterior design to match their current design language. This includes the Pixel-Vizor front fascia with LED daytime running lights and a hidden LED screen. That screen displays the Opel logo or other messages.

At the rear, there are three-dimensional taillights and Opel has also made extra room for large 17-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin has an electrified update too incorporating two digital screens. The first is a twelve-inch instrument cluster and the second a ten-inch infotainment screen. Matching yellow accents bring the exterior flare into the cabin.

Impressive EV performance and more to come.

A rear-mounted electric motor keeps the rear-wheel drive of the original Opel Manta. It’s powered by a 31-kWh lithium-ion battery which gives 108 kW and 255 Nm that has around 200 km of range. To keep it more authentic, Opel kept the four-speed manual gearbox.

What’s quite exciting is that Opel has lead us to believe that this Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD might not be the last EV restomod. This means that we might have more cool EV models like this to talk about in the future.
