Haval Jolion arrives in South Africa

Haval, the Chinese brand currently known for the H2 SUV, has recently launched its new Jolion in South Africa. This compact SUV is marketed as being sporty, luxurious and affordable with the standard model not going over R300 000. It will eventually replace the H2, so let’s take a look at the new model.

A sportier and more luxurious Haval Jolion.

The sportiness is immediate when looking at the front end of the Jolion. Sharp lines, slim headlights and a wide grille make this a much different car from the H2 already.

The Haval Jolion is is a little bigger than the H2 and will come with five derivatives – City, Luxury, Premium and Super Luxury. As standard, it will ride on 17-inch alloys, but the Luxury trim and up will receive 18-inch wheels.

Enough comparing the Jolion to the H2, it is a completely new car after all. Inside, there is a virtual instrument cluster that can come with a heads-up display for speed and more vital information. To the right of the driver is a floating infotainment screen with a simple strip for shortcuts just underneath. Even with them, there is still a neat looking controller in the centre console. This system will come with wireless charging, push-button start and keyless entry.

Overall, the interior succeeds in giving an upmarket look in a more affordable car. We would assume that this does mean loads of cheap materials, but we won’t judge it on that until we actually get into one.

New platform with the same engine under all models.

The Jolion will be produced on the new L.E.M.O.N platform that Haval created which can be used for a number of body shapes. Underneath the hood is a turbocharged 1,5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that puts 105 kW and 210 Nm through the front wheels via a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As for safety, there are many features that come standard. These include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control with traction control, secondary collision, mitigation, anti-roll, hill assist, tyre pressure monitoring and rear parking sensors with a reverse camera and guidelines.

The Super Luxury model will get even more safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot detection.
