Volkswagen Taigo coming to SA in 2022

Volkswagen has confirmed that the new Taigo, which will first be produced in Spain, will be coming to South Africa in 2022. Based on the Brasilian Nivus model, the Volkwagen Tiago is a CUV, or Crossover Utility Vehicle) that sits in between SUV and coupé.

It’s as if the T-Cross became more coupé-like. While specifications and finer details have yet to be announced, we do have teaser art and a few details on what to expect next year.

The Volkswagen Taigo is a smaller T-Cross.

As a small SUV boasting a coupé shape, it’s a little more sporty but still gains an elevated seating position. LED headlights will come as standard as well as a number of driver assistance systems. Inside, there will be a fully digital cockpit and what Volkswagen describe as “state-of-the-art connectivity.”

At launch, Volkswagen will be giving the Taigo a TSI engine. This is a diesel, “lightweight, high-power, fuel-efficient four-cylinder traditional combustion engine.” – as described by Hall Volkswagen.

We can expect to get more details on the Taigo later in the year as the launch is set for the end of 2021. How early in 2022 the model will reach South Africa is unknown, but we guess that it will be the first quarter.
