The Lexus LF-Z Electrified Concept

Lexus has recently revealed their LF-Z Electrified concept that will speak for their future EVs to come. The company intends to produce EVs and include electric versions of their current cars by 2025 but won’t ditch traditional engines unlike many luxury brands have.

This concept is no preview of any future electric cars, although we can expect to see features of it appear on models to come from the brand. However, there is still a chance that Lexus might stay very close to this concept for a model. Only time will tell.

The Lexus LF-Z Electrified concept follows the previous EV concept, the  LF-30, which was revealed in 2019. Interestingly, the shape of the body was made to fit multiple different types of cars. That being a sedan, hatchback and crossover.

From the front, there are very thin headlights and an illuminated badge that repeats in the rear. Probably one of the most stand-out features is the area the grille would have gone. It’s an inverse sheet of plastic that is broken by a black translucent panel. This panel is there to house the self-driving sensors that can give Level 3 and up of autonomous driving.

More standard EV features appear on the sides like pop-out door handles and side-view mirror cameras. Around the back, there is a clear line down the centre. A blue strip over the rear window, which features electrochromic tinting, and a red strip on the bumper.

The interior that Lexus has shown is very bare and doesn’t feature anything new in the EV world. It has a clean, futuristic design with a Formula racing-like steering wheel (much like what Tesla plans to use). Behind the steering wheel is one large screen featuring a triple-display while at the driver’s feet are play and stop pedals.

We expect that each model to come will take pieces of this concept and combine them with its own style. We do enjoy that this concept is very different from a traditional car, but we will have to see if that remains true for the production models.
